Those that you find in the gym. Not the crazy ones in Europe where you jump in the snow after.

Saunas are very homeopathic (note the "e") in their purpose. They are believed to help people sweat out toxins in their body. They also have more scientifically backed uses such as joint and muscle relief as well as for therapy for respiratory illness such as asthma and chronic bronchitis.

Helps with cutting weight for a weigh-in. Wrestling/boxing/MMA bound people. Although not your average person, its pretty nice to sit in there if your stressed, or if its freaking freezing during wintertime. When I went on study abroad in China it was during winter session and Beijing was freaking freezing. Man those saunas were swwwwwwwwweeet.

people sometimes sit in them to sweat off a few pounds. how this works, I have no clue. But I've seen wrestlers enter them in full winter gear (sweatshirt, sweatpants), in order to make themselves sweat a lot.
i think you are merely losing water weight, which is not a permanent weight loss.. unless someone can correct me here. they confuse me as to their purpose other than therapeutic purposes.

Thanks. Will try it out tonight then I suppose.

Anybody got sauna etiquette? If you don't wanna post on here for fear of being berated, feel free to pm me ;)

If a fever is bad, why would anyone think sitting in a steam filled room hotter than body temperature is good?

Having lived in Texas, I don't get why you'd go into a sauna for FUN either.
