I've used this board for about 6 different builds, and I have had a multitude of problems. One problem in particular just keeps occuring over and over, and I have a customer who is going to be PISSED when I tell him his system he bought over a month ago is going to be delayed for another week.

This is the third motherboard he's had that has gone bad in less than a few days, or just shown up dead. All these the Asus P5N-SLI board.

The ones that worked upon arrival die, windows refuses to shutdown, and even a hard shutdown doesn't work. After pulling the power, and booting it back up, it won't even boot into the BIOS. I've seen this exact same problem with three boards. The one I got today was dead on arrival.

It's a damn shame because I have always been using Asus boards, and continue to use the P5B, but I am so sick of the P5N-SLI, I swear I'm an inch away from pulling my hair out.

I've stopped using it for future builds of course, but please, no one buy the Asus P5n-SLI. It's a total piece of fvcking ******.

I used one in a recent build for a customer and it was flawless. However I hope it remains that way since I have to warranty the sucker. :p

I've had a few that have been fine as well. But I don't think it's worth the risk.

Got another e-mail from a customer this evening...

"I received the machine today. I have a problem though. I was running the updates and installing my software, when the machine shut down and now will now power back up. It was after my 4th reboot (gotta love Microsoft), and she just died. I can not even get it to post now. It runs for about 10 secs ( fans spin up ) then it just shuts down. I opened the case to see if anyting was loose, or had come unplugged during shipping, but I do not see anything wrong. I have also re-seated the video card and the RAM mods, all with the same results. What is our next step ? "

Guess what motherboard is in his system.

I'm not questioning your technical ability here, but what psu & memory are you using? I have a hard time understanding how so many of these boards that you install are failing. Are there other forum posts with people experiencing similar problems?

Mostly Ultra x-finity 600w. I've used some Patriot 667 and Geil 667. I tried an Antec 430w I had lying around, did the same thing.

The one that had the problem that I found before shipping ran fine for a while, several hours, even a few turns through 3DMark06, rebooting between runs, but I left it on overnight, and in the morning, wouldn't shut down, then wouldn't boot up.

Windows will not shut down all the way, then the user would use the power button on the case, and it would not work either. The only way to shut them off was to pull the plug. Then the system refuses to boot to BIOS, with no beep codes of course.

I've had half of the ones I used work fine, ran fine during testing, and customers have yet to have any complaints.

I've started replacing them with 965P based boards, and customers seem to be fairly understanding of losing SLI. Costs me more money though, and these systems have been a headache.

I've had some power problems with an Asus P5ND2-SLI mobo and Antec Neo HE 550 PSU. My problem is even in the FAQs in Antec site. http://www.antec.com/us/support_productInfo_details.php?ProdID=28550# The pc sometimes would not power on and I had to flip the psu switch off and on to turn on the pc. Now you have had power problems with 2 PSUs but one of them is an Antec and the other is an off brand which may also have problems with Asus MOBOs.

However, I doubt all of these motherboard failures are psu related, since multiple boards and psu's are involved.

I've used the same PSU in about a dozen other systems, and I have not had one problem with it yet.

Those psu's will probably power 95% of the systems out their without any problems, and like I said I seriously doubt its being caused by multiple psu's-all the failures are the board, in different computers, means the board is at fault! However, X-Connect is not a psu reconmended by the experts, it is not a brand that is reconmended by the users of maxi clocked rigs, or DFI motherboards that require the cleanest, most stable power.

Why is the Ultra X-Finity not reconmended? Here's why: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications...details.asp?EdpNo=1273341&Sku=ULT31848

That thing has 18A on the +12v rail! 18 AMPS! Thats PATHETIC FOR A 600 WATT PSU. NEWEGG DOESN'T EVEN STOCK THEM THEY ARE SO CRAPPY!!!!! My 480 watt Tagan has 28 AMPS ON THE +12V rail! WAAAAAAAAAY better than a crappy X-Finity.

That goodpower I linked to has TWO 18 AMP +12V rails! TWO, and its only 500 watts! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817189005

It says 18A on one +12V, and 20A and a second +12V.

And I am not selling to experts nor OC'ers. ;)

The PSU may very well be a problem for me. I have an antec neo HE 550 and whenever I try to power the system, the motherboard powers on but nothing boots and I have a blank screen. Would people with Antec PSU compatability errors even be able to get their motherboards to power on? I just wanted to know before I returned my motherboard as defective.
