WTF is that picture on the front of yesterday's NY Times?

Apparently, this picture is of the president disembarking from Air Force One... Though it's hard to tell, because 9/10ths of the picture is SKY!

On one side, you have a little bit of 747, on the bottom, you have the wing, which is blocking everything but the president's head from view.

Couldn't they have found a better picture? Or used a picture for another story?

Scan

We here in the city tend to read newspapers for the words, and not the pictures.

Our apologies.

Photographers probably aren't allowed close enough to get a clear shot, so they're out somewhere in a bush. ;)

And yet they take up most of the space with a giant picture- one that's not even any good. You could have put a lot of words in that space.

Silly city people, lol

I think it's supposed to be more artistic than a factual capture of a moment in time.

From a technical standpoint, this photo follows all the rules: the subject is at or near the intersecion of an imaginary 3x3 grid (rule of thirds), the subject is facing "into" the photo, there is plenty of blank space, and the wing of the plane cutting across the photo provides a nice touch which grounds the photo.

But still, a total waste of space for a NY Times front page-- but what else is new?

Of course.

But then what would Joe Average Pigfarmer vacationing from Arkansas have to "read" while waiting on the 7 train at Times Square (during respites of asking "Which of these here trains goes to Queens?")?

Wait... so you're saying the NY Times is geared towards Joe Average Pigfarmer and not elitist schmucks like yourself?

And I glance at the free newspaper dispenser as I walk by it on the way to the shitter to see if it looks worthy of reading while I drop a deuce. I never grab the Times, really, but I did this time, just because of the retarded picture.... Which happens to take up more than 1/4 of the front-page, above-the fold space and is a bright color, which very strongly attracts casual attention.

You may have missed that gigantic gust of air rushing above your head just a moment ago.

Try scanning it again. This time rotate it so that it is the right way, and make it a reasonable size.

No, because scanning requires my getting up, walking across the room, logging into that workstation, waiting 11ty years for a DC to respond and authenticate me, waiting for all the policies and ****** to apply, waiting for it to download my profile, and then scanning it. I did it once, and frankly, I don't feel like doing it again.
