iTunes helper? WTF? Do you even have an iPod? If you do, I feel really sorry for you. iTunes may report it using a few MBs of ram but in reality, it's using much more than you think... A format won't save you because you've got poor application installation habits, it will just return again to bite you in the ass. When I startup, I use about 200MBs which IMO I still think is a lot but compared to you it's nothing. You've got to change your habits otherwise nothing will change. I've been on this installation since May 8th and I startup with like I said, about 200MB of ram being used (I have quite a few programs load up at startup).

Hmm, I'm using about 640mb right now, but that seems to be the norm for me nowadays.

Wow, I have maybe the amount of processes you have. Normally I'm under 200 MB usage unless I've got a big program going or firefox is sucking up a lot of space.

what the hell is wrong with you? your ignorance and fanboy trolling is so obvious. having an Ipod is perfectly fine and just because you are too stupid to understand that doesnt make it wrong.

what are you talking about "installation habits" for? that doesnt even make sense. people install the programs they need. this isnt like your morning routine when you wake up. you obviously know nothing about computers and should refrain from opening your mouth.

oh, and itunes isnt using more ram than it reports. that is the dumbest thing ive ever heard.

ok i've got two words for u. uninstall and msconfig. do u really need al that stuff open? i mean i know everybody likes to mutlitask but u r exaggerating. anyway, use msconfig to turn of stuff u don't need. for example, i have never understood wat iTunes helper does and so i turned it off. no effect. u don't need it. also, do u really really need the NetGear config utility open? y do u have the oncare beta? as for winssit's a resource hog. disable it. u do need to install. but as goku said, improve ur app habits. u have a lot of stuff that is not neccesary. yes i know the difference between what u want and wat u need. but i googled some of ur processes and they are just unneccesary. u should disable as much stuff as possile from startup. i have maybe 4 programs start up? also, get CPU Idle.it really really helps decrease temps. i have gotten to 23C and i only have a $15 fan/heatsink by Arctic Cooling. good luck.

To the OP: No need to reformat. Nor would that help. You just have a lot of those unnecessary "helper" apps loading at startup. I consider these memory resident apps, like iTunesHelper or QTTask or WinampA, etc. to almost as bad as spyware. Developers use them so that users think their bloatware loads faster, when in fact it is just pre-loaded at startup and wasting resources all the time. They are completely unnecessary. I don't want an application to run until I click on it to run. Fortunately, msconfig and regedit are your friends. Delete the unnecessary startup keys from HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

Well I disabled a lot of services and processes from loading at startup and got it down to 230MB or so, but Windows Onecare doesn't start automatically now so i'll have to fix that. That'll easily add another 50MB or so. There are other processes running that I don't want to get rid of like my UPS software (automatically hybernates the computer during a power outage). There was also a bunch of stuff I disabled that I'm not sure I was supposed to disable so i'll know shortly if I fvcked stuff up. :p

IME, somewhere around 200MB charge at startup is the best you can reasonably do when running ATi drivers.

Shens, I know this is a lie because when I'm running BF2, BF2 according to what you're saying, isn't playing hardass and instead decides to reside moreso in the pagefile than kicking windows' out of the cache. The maximum I've ever had an application get for *actual* ram is about 700MB which I think is outrageous and infuriating because that ram should be going towards BF2 and not some fscking cache that I can't utilize since I'm in a game...
