Ok - i have medieval - total war and it keeps crashing to the main menu without any error message. When i check the error.log file ther is this;
C:\Crusaders\3dmap.cpp(3771) : DirectX call : E_NOTIMPL (UNSUPPORTED)

What is it and how can i fix it.

I am running WinXP on a 1ghz P3, 256Mb Ram, and a radeon 9700

Thanks
Jonathan

DirectX is the Windows 2D / 3D game library of course, and E_NOTIMPL is coderspeak for "error - not implemented." It means the program asked the DirectX library to do something that the ATI drivers said they couldn't do.

It could be a game bug, or you may need a newer version of DirectX or the ATI drivers.

Get your vid/sound drivers 100% up to date and THEN go reload directx from microsoft. Should fix you right up.

Shiznit. I forgot about that. Stupid XP.

do start | run and type DXDIAG

go to the display page and hit those test buttons. If you get a clean run out of them start pestering the support guys for medieval.

It sounds like video drivers. That 9700 is new, did you get your old drivers cleaned out? The only thing I could find on technet is a suggestion to reload the latest XP service pack.

Well - i formatted my drive before installing the radeon 9700 (i certainly hope that is enough ); ) And my Windows XP has got SP1 and all the latest updates released after.

Contacting activision support didn't solve enything - they just told me to get a dx 8.1 compliant card - it seems they don't even know what a redeon is.....
