Apparently I am some sort of noob with regards to vegetables/fruits because a "gourd" is apparently the earliest domesticated thing ever and I only tried some for the first time last week.

I still cannot put together what this thing represents in terms of a staple, delicacy, etc.
canned goodness

It tasted like cucumber water mixed in with aloe vera.

edit: also, the "gourd" looks unusually happy which is why I decided to try it out:eek:

<---another victim of Oceanic marketing :(

I'll admit to not hating it but I didn't quite like it. I guess it went well with the Vietnamese food I was eating, but the taste wasn't particularly redeeming.

It tasted like nothing... with something really bland added.

That's surprising to me that it tasted like nothing.
For me, it's very sweet and tastes a lot like what brown sugar juice would be if there was one.
In fact, I used to always think it was made out of brown sugar.

I have seen them growing on the side of the road, but I didn;t know people ate them. Isn't that what they drink yerba mate out of in South America? hmmm, not sure.

ya, we eat em all the time. hollow them out, take the innards mix with sausage, biscuit mix, cheese, and a couple other things, refill the gourd with goo, and bake. It's delicious.
