wtf i just relized my galaxy S3 is not in 4g

waggy

No Lifer
and according to verizons covrage map i am in S4 coverage area. So i called and they said if its not working im not.

WTF grr i feel i was cheated!

Never, ever rely on any carrier's coverage maps. The reality is usually pretty damn far away from what they display.

I would guess that my phone spends 90% of the time in 3G by choice. 4G is sweet, just not necessary most of the time.

Goto Settings -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Points Names ->

From there select LTE - Verizon Internet

Do a soft reset and take out your battery and then put it back in and reboot.

Check to see if 4G works after that.

That's what I had to figure out on my own. Idiot tech on Verizon kept telling me if my phone was on the Internet then that's how it's supposed to work.

I don't know about you but 3G on Verizon runs like dog shit. at least in my area it felt like excruciating dialup when I had it. 4G is the only way to go in my city to get sane Internet speeds on Verizon.

Verizon gets 3g everywhere but the speed sucks so bad I ended up dumping them and going straight Talk with a hspa+ phone, it gets 3g battery life and super fast data speeds

lol at my daughters Gymnastics if i sit in a chair on the right side of the building i get 4g if is it on the left i dont (the sitting room is maybe 20ft wide).

4g was fucking fast though.

Huh, I thought 4G didn't work on the S3?

meh it says 4G and its fucking fast.

Yeah, it doesn't matter that HSPA+ can scale to silly levels and that it is already faster than a lot of people's home connections.... It's not 4g! 😉

Then again, neither is the current deployment of LTE.

yep. i dont mind tmo calling their 3g, 4g. go ahead. nobody has 100mb connections yet, so nobody actually has 4g.

when speeds do get that fast, itll be called turbo g or some stupid shit

Right you are. But the difference in spectral efficiency is significant to the carrier (and the user, if the cell gets congested). It takes a crazy amount of spectrum to get HSPA+ to 42 Mbps. LTE takes a lot less.

LTE also wins for uploads and latency.

HSPA+ is at the end of its road. LTE is at the beginning of a new road, and will eventually scale to well over 100 Mbps.

In about 5 years, LTE will also start replacing the current voice networks. Once they can turn down/off the current voice networks, that makes room for even more LTE. WOOT!

Not me. I just installed phoneinfo and went to settings manually changed to 3g and then back to 4g and voila!
