WTF? I have an .Avi file that WMP won't play, but Real Player will...does this make sense?

Yep, it's an AVI file...TMPEG won't encode it to MPEG and Windows Media Player can't even open up...Real Player seems to have no problem with it, though.

Am I missing something here?

Maybe...how would I find out? More importantly, how could I edit it knowing it's DIVX?

If it's an .AVI file, rt. click on the file, choose Properties, and it should have a Details tab under which it will tell you all the file's characteristics.

For editing, I'd suggest trying VirtualDub, a great little program. You also need to have the DivX codec(s) installed.

If some part of a videofile is corrupted, WMP will refuse to play it, while RealPlayer will at least attempt to do so, and sometimes succeeds. It's the one thing I like about RP.

That is because you suck. WMP plays every file I run through it except Real Media files and .mov files encoded with the Sorenson codec.

Simple.. you have an uncomplete divx file. WMP needs to have the end header or something to be able to play divx files but Realplayer streams it.

Mmm...so if I want to encode it into an MPG (So I could put it to VCD) what program would I need?
