they are both probably correct, it is just the different servers

I'd rather have 1 Mbps downstream throughput and respectable upstream thoughput (at the very least 128 kbps).

Most times, you're quite a few hops away from the remote server, so you aren't getting close to the peak downstream rate anyway.

those bandwidth tests just test your bandwidth to that location, and are mostly worthless. find about 3 really fast places to download big files from at once, start downloading, and then check your bandwidth with a program, not a site.
