Before and after pictures. I think the OP link, showed a picture with
Roger Ebert wearing some kind of turtle neck. Thus the weird looking result. :(

My grandfather hung around for 10 years after a stroke took away his ability to swallow. He couldn't even get down his own saliva without it going down his airway. He always had a smile when I'd visit him and was fun to talk to. Never complained.

Ebert is one tough bastard. Many other people would just fall into depression after something like this. Props to him.

I see him sometimes at screenings and he still works quite a bit.

Having a purpose surely helps.

He's a good man. He really comes across as an honest carrying person in his blog posts and essays. His movie reviews are of course legendary and very good writing in their own right. Throat and jaw cancers are horrible. My previous bosses father died of throat cancer, NOT a pretty way to go. Ebert is a strong guy. Keep on chugging man!

Roger Ebert is awesome. It's amazing the amount of work he still does even after all he's been through. And I agree with Locut0s, his reviews are, and have been for years, the standard by which all other reviews are based (and all the others fall short.)

I hope he hangs around for as long as he wants to, and whenever he passes, I hope it's on his own terms.

I love Ebert. About the only time I disagreed with him was his review of Gladiator.

Seriously. Does it get any better than this?

Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

Valentine's Day is being marketed as a Date Movie. I think it's more of a First-Date Movie. If your date likes it, do NOT date that person again. And if you like it, there may not be a second date.

If I just saw the picture, I would've not been able to tell it was Roger Ebert.
Makes me think about how things change. Superman guy became parallelized, Anand became a bit chubby plus bold, and square-jawed-talkative Roger Ebert became that...

I remember Ebert responding to a critic of his because the guy that wrote the article called him "fat". Ebert responded in his Sun Times column something like "Yes, I am fat. However, you are ugly, and I can lose weight."

Awesome :D

The Esquire article describes a moment where Ebert begins to type on his computer. He presses a button and the speakers light up. "I've never said this before," the voice says, "but we were born to be Siskel and Ebert." The voice then says: "I just miss the guy so much."

:( Touching...
