I'm playing the Homeworld Catalyst demo right now for the first time.

such an unbelievable game!

I never knew RTS could be done in full 3D. So beautiful... It's awesome you can zoom out to see your ships spanning over 20 miles and also have a close up on a specific acolyte kicking ass with its rifles...

Being an avid Blizz gamer, this is so refreshing to me. wow!

I'm definitely buying this game.. I bet it's under $10 by now.. Never knew a game so old could look so nice.

I'm a big homeworld fan, played the original and the one you are playing now. The story on the original homeworld is simply AMAZING. If you are playing Catalyst without playing the first one, I think you should buy the first one first, since the story sort of continues from it.

BTW: Homeworld 2 is coming out sometime this year. I saw it in a PC Gamer Mag. and it looks awesome!

Beautiful, well designed game.

danny~!

it's now that hard once you go into the overhead mode by pressing W. Then the view becomes very similar to 'Crafts, you can give commands easily from the top-down sight.

It's also nice to see you could group/assign units with numbers keys just like Blizzard RTS games... Ctrl + 1-9 to assign, Press the numbers to recall...

Homeyworld is one of my all time favorite games. The interface reminds me of Battlezone I/II (another greatest game of all time...yet never made mainstream).

Really nice graphics, a bit behind at this point.
If you like the controls of the game make sure to checkout Eve Online the Second Genesis.
I'm beta testing it currently, the graphics are STUNNING.

Homeworld and Homeworld: Cataclysm are excellent.

Homeworld is probably in my top 5 favorite games of all time. The soundrack is perhaps the best.

Definently play Homeworld first so the story line makes more sense.

haha catalyst. anyways homeworld was too slow for me, the pacing just wasn't right. too much time spent gathering resources and the battles ended in a couple mins. Plus the multiplayer sucked ASS.

still, the graphics and the battles were pretty fun, i loved sending in a ton of fighters to take down an ion frigate or too and then bringing in the big cruisers to launch even more fighters and a couple destroyers to round it out.

The HW series is very good, but it's so stressing, there's SO MUCH micromanagement you have to do which means lots of hotkeys pressed, lots of mouse clicks, lots of stress on wrists shoulders and eyes. One game I recall was seeing a large wall of acolytes coming after me with my pathetically small group of mbfs are clear across the map. The attacker is laughing across the room because he thinks he has me. So I start launching my sents and realize I don't have time, so I've got to go into the hangar module for my mothership and carriers, send the launch group command, rotate my mothership away from the acs so that they don't immediately missile out my hangar, get my sents in formation, continue managing my attack on his resources with my mbfs, and targeting his acos with my sents. Well, at least I got to teach him why I never use my sentinels for shielding.

This is opposed to starcraft where I can 7 times out of 10, get away with "a" and click.

Also, trying to hyper in a df on a siege cannoning mothership is VERY hard and requires more timing than I've ever seen in a game, but I suppose it should be. It's pretty much a guaranteed win.

Dammit, and I told myself I was gonna stop gaming.
