WTF high latency & slow downloads if router used, no problems if not

Ok folks there is something weird going on here and I can't figure out just what is wrong. I have Comcast High Speed cable services and up until now it was performing ok. Now for no reason that I can see (no hardware or software changes) the connection has gone to crap. I'm experiencing latencies of 300ms and above to the FIRST hop and my downloads are abysmal frequently below 100k/s. I have tried three different routers a Linksys WRT54G, Linksys BEFSR41 and a Linksys RT31P2. I have upgraded the firmware for the WRT54G to the latest version available from Linksys I don't know about the other two although only the RT31P2 is hooked into the network currently for Vonage access and is not acting as a router. Any ideas?

You said you changed Routers, but did you change cables too. Always start with the simple stuff first.

I would try changing network cables. Maybe even try another nic if you happen to have one. It wont hurt to rule both out just to make sure.

Open ports 1681-1689 for UDP and TCP on your router to improve rate of large downloads... by default they are blocked and with throttle your dloads. Chears.

How do you do that in the WRT54G, Sandmanic?

Under "Applications & Gaming -> Port Range Forward" it asks for an IP. I'm using DHCP with 4 devices on my network. Does leaving it at default open those ports for all devices?
