WTF Help! My computer is still connected to the internet even AFTER I turn it off???? URGENT!!

Wtf I need help.

I am a 56k modem...dialup basically

I have two lines in the house. Primary which is what is normally used and secondary to use the net since there is no broadband in my area save for 60 dollar adelphia.

I was messing with powerstrip in an earlier topic that said adjust the latency on each thing could help you and i was hoping to solve some 56k modem woes that included disconnecting immediately once i touched the pc after a period of inactivity.

Anyway the value was 32 on the latency and I made adjustments and played with it but no real imporvment

Then I got disconnected b/c i started watching a divx (computer does it often where i just disconnect but then it connects and is fine the rest of the time while I'm watching anime) and it tried to reconnect but the modem made that "internet noise".

I cancelled and figured modem was stupid or something so I watch 2 episodes of Onegai Twins (basically what has been released for u anime lovers 😉 ) and noticed when i tried to connect the SAME problem still occuring.

I went down stairs and picked up the phone and it STILL Had it. I made sure all the phones were closed and I STILL had this.

Its like I disconnected but the ISP refuses to acknowledge this.

Can anyone help me? Technically I'm never supposed to be on the main line but during nighttime when me and my brother vy for the secondary connection we'll "stealthily" use it...but I can't have my dad wake up and have a phone like this

Can anyone help...pleasE? THANKS!

try actually disconnecting the phone line from the modem; best to have everything turned off when you do this. Once disconnected, the dead line should be recognized and disconnected from your net service. Usually just shutting the system down will do the trick, but try disconnecting.

good luck

yeah..... just unplug it from the modem. it cant just stay online if its not even plugged into a modem.
