Get a better computer.

EDIT: *Looks at rig specs*

Obviously you don't know how to use your computer, so you should give it to me.

They seem a little choppy to me too. I was viewing a few HD trailers from apple's site and it would stutter throughout most of it.

And I have a decent setup. A64 3200+, 1GB ram, 6600GT.

Exactly. They're not like 100% smooth, but not a slideshow. They slow down to 15 - 20 fps at some times... =(

I had a similar problem with certain players then I downloaded a new Xvid decoder and it fixed it

it's because it is quicktime....

Really almsot no one can play quicktime HD files smoothly...

it's the format and the h.264, not your PC.

<--can play 1080p h.264 decently (a64 3000+/1GB/x800xl) but not perfectly by any means

things like Xvid, wmv, regualr mpeg4 and raw ts files can play nicely if you use the right apps)

um you have looked at the system requirements right?, your computer is just not powerfull enough. I know that sounds crazy but it's true.

I have a machine that's just a little faster and it did the same thing a little.

I defragged and did the disk cleanup and it helped more than I thought it would.

Wait till Nvidia and ATI release hardware support for it that will fix it. If they do that is.

Edit: Mine = AMD 64 3800+ 6800 ultra 2gb ram

EDIT 2: Specs for 1080P from apples site

QuickTime 7 for Windows:
3.0 Ghz Intel Pentium D (dual-core) or faster processor
At least 1GB of RAM
64MB or greater video card
Windows 2000 or XP

I think the problem is no dual core.

P4 3Ghz / 1.5Gb DDR2 / x800..runs alright. Can't see everything, though - only 1280x1024 (LCD)..:(

When you start seeing HD-DVD or Blu-Rays players for $1k you'll know why.

Having four CPU's helps my goodness! :D

QT7 is VERY SMP aware and I'm impressed by how well it plays on the SMP system. The Optiplex Uniprocessor systems (3.6GHz) have some difficulty but it may be due to the really low end X300 cards in them.

Then again I'm not so sure about all this stuff other than what I see so don't take this too seriously. :)

I can't seem to get any players to use more than 50% CPU (dual-core CPU) for h.264, and as a result it's dropping frames. Not sure how to fix that, because I should have the necessary CPU power...

since its single threaded...wouldn't 50% be the max?

No, it would mean only a single CPU would be at 100% capacity.

amd 3000+, 2gb pc3200, one of those nifty 6800gt's that run faster then the ultras.

Yes, but I'd think that at least one player out there would be multithreaded, given the steep CPU requirements for decoding h.264...

VLC can play H.264 content fairly well with no jitter (even content from the Apple site).

Cannot recall if I installed some hacked version of H.264 or not to make it function as well as it does.

Edit: for comparison purposes, this would be on a 3.4GHz Northwood, 2048 MB PC3200 DDR, and a Mobility 9600 Pro 128MB.

(I know, it's time to upgrade. It's coming soon.)
