How do I use the tooth remover?

If you find that your Genpet has been nipping it is acceptable to use the tooth remover. Please refer to the instructional manual that came with you tooth remover kit.

My Genpet will not wake up from Hibernation.

After removing your Genpet from the package make sure to unhook the feeding tube from its stomach. Under the rare circumstance that your Genpet does not awake within 15 minutes you can attempt to wake the Genpet up by lightly rubbing in a circular motion at the base of the Genpets neck. If after a few minutes of rubbing you see no noticeable change, please return your Genpet to the place of sale and exchange your Genpet for a fresh one.

Of course it's fake. did this really even need to be debunked? though we are getting closer to the day where that could be plausible, it's still at least 100 years away

Not necessarily 100, but certainly not today.

Yes, and so are 8-core processors. I wonder if NewEgg takes 100 year pre-orders.

The thing is pretty ugly, so until they up the cute factor quotient, it wouldn't sell, anyway.

ok maybe 100 is a bit of an exaggeration. But to do something like create a new complex organic species... no, i'm thinking about 100 years. maybe 60 if we ever have a reason to actually persue that kind of thing

I don't know what your reasoning behind such fantastic time frames is, but the fact is we could create a creature unlike any other today. Enough is already known about the various functions of the genome to reprogram it with a reasonable degree of accuracy, perhaps using some deviation to offset unexpected results with more than one sample. In fact they have software for this very purpose... well, not creating weird creatures but engineering viruses/bacterium and gene therapy. All that would be required is RNA interference of the germ cell after the genome has been rewritten and there's your scary monster.

There is a legitimate site that sells truly genetically engineered pets.

www.allerca.com (okay maybe not genetically "engineered" but certainly genetically modified)

bacterial DNA insertion is leaps and bounds from figuring out the complex interactions of millions of proteins. it's like having gunpowder and saying we'll make a machine gun in a few years. Yeah we could possibly peice parts of similar species together like a sort of advanced hybridizing. but that would be far from creating a completely new species, or say making a hippocampus.

Interesting that you happen to mention the hippocampus. 'We' have in fact already made an artificial hippocampus, which came from the understanding of how one works. It's being lab-tested at the moment but in some years time will be put through clinical trials in patients with amnesia.

As for completely figuring out protein interactions in the body, that is not necessary. Much like it's not necessary to fully understand the flow of source code to be able to make meaningful modifications to parts you can make sense of. But don't take my word for it, there's plenty of genetic engineering going on which you can read about. Despite not having a complete protein map, it works.
