Nope, much like you, I'm not about to get all roundabout for a feature that was present before.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why they haven't got "ok Google, what musics playing?" working as the functionality is there they just haven't linked it to that command.

Hmm weird, I don't have TuneIn radio, so it hasn't done that for me. The only other compatible music app I have for Android Auto is Audible.

I've got a few audible, Google music, tunein radio, pocket casts and (until recently) amazon music. It's only tunein that does it.

Well it's got text input now so it's not an issue!

I saw that but you have to press the keyboard button after you launch Google assistant. Unless there is a setting to change that?

Also, sound search is not new, it's been here a long time already.

Works really well in the car. "OK Google" pauses any music while it listens for commands.

Just found that setting!
Open assistant, settings, device, preferred input (set it to keyboard).

Opens up with the keyboard as default input and a mike button in the input bar.

Did you try clearing the app data?



I know, and thats the way it's going to stay for as long as I can keep it! I reverted to it because, well being blunt, assistant is a bit horrible if you dont like looking like a numpty and having unnecessary conversations with an inanimate object!
Being not blunt, I couldn't find anything that assistant could do better than Google now but with the disadvantage that it's voice only and it chats.

I miss my google on tap.... what the hell did they do I used to be able to track a package on my screen just by holding the home screen... seems I can't anymore. Maybe I don't get it, that seems completely not useful.
