First thing I'd do is take pics and make a thread about it on ATOT.

Oh wait, he did! :)

But why do you have a glass cutting board? I can't for the life of me figure out why I'd want the risk of glass shattering while I'm chopping something. You're lucky that didn't shatter while you were cutting something on it. (Or your fiancee)

Not mine. Roommates cutting board. I never use it. Fiance just happened to stay at my house last night, she doesn't live here. Besides, she doesn't cook anyway so I doubt she'd ever use a cutting board :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you shouldn't use wooden cutting boards (or utensils, spoons, etc.) because they are a breeding ground for germs because you can never truly clean them. Imagine you throw a gooey raw chicken on that cutting board. The bacteria penetrates the wood and is impossible to clean out. From then on all the food you place on it get contaminated with microscopic chicken bacteria.

I only use wood/bamboo for cutting meat, only veggies for this reason, not sure if there's truth to it but it makes me feel betteR:)

This needs a poll. Only the combined wisdom of an ATOT poll can determine the true culprit.

I've noticed that glass cutting boards often spontaneously self destruct as a precursor to zombie invasions, so that's my vote.

Ah, here come the bacteria-phobes.

Get a bamboo cutting board and use soapy water to wash it immediately after use, then use salt and lemon juice on the area, then rinse it and let it dry.

I believe that wood is actually naturally anti-bacterial, but that's not something I know to be a fact.

Are you sure neither of those burners were hot when you set it down? It looks like the end was laying on them.

Wood has some miraculous bacteria-killing properties. Plastic is what you shouldn't be using.

That's correct. Plastic cutting boards get scores in the surface which trap germs, and can't be easily washed. As you said, wood is naturally antibacterial, and the only choice for a cutting board.

plastic boards should be used for meats, and then run throught the dishwasher and sanitized.

This happened to the tempered glass shower door in my old townhouse. I busted out of bed thinking someone had broken a window and was trying to rob us, but I searched the whole house and nothing. Then I went to use the bathroom and stumbled into glass armageddon.

We left out at like 7:10 this morning. Nobody had cooked on the stove this morning and no one used those left burners last night. It only looks like it was close to the burner because it expanded out towards the burner after the "explosion".

In reality, the edge of the cutting board was about 5 inches from the edge of the stovetop.
