What the freaking hell was wrong w/ the original twin tower design!?

Having two towers soar into the air is much more friggin impressive then a stupid-looking assortment of wierd geometrical shapes topped off by an ugly freedom tower.

I like symmetry and balance. that tower gives me a headache by just looking at it.

AND wtf is wrong w/ the name? Why "FREEEDOM tower!!"???
why not some more conventional cool name? ya ya it represents our freedom and what not. At least name it something else... howabout naming after the group of investers who made it, or whatever. just a more practical name.

I want the NYC skyline to get back to what it was before. There was something awesome about having 2 towers soar into the sky than 1. I was far more impressed by lookin up towards two towers than i was impressed by looking up Sears tower, or John Hancock, etc.

I'm pretty damn sure that those who have been to the awesome city of NYC, and have been to the WTC area will agree w/ me. The NYC skyline was truly one of a kind, and the Twin Towers made it awesome.

It's seem like pussyfying to me IMHO. having two, slightly taller skyscrapers >>> one stupid lone skyscraper surrounded by wierd biuldings that look like an Englishman's assortment of teeth..

something I really agree on:

2 giant blocks aren't very interesting in terms of architecture though. Their shear size was the only thing that made them stand out at all.

NYC has its own art-decco/gothic/industrial/marble+glass style.

2 square blocks are old and plain. As for the "Freedom tower" name, I give it 5-10 years before some companies buy the naming right, i.e. put their company name on the building.

that's a pretty neat looking building... but I agree completely. They should ahve built those 2 towers right back the way they were (maybe some new nifty design as a memorial but generally the same.)

Standing in the courtyard below those two buildings looking up was awe inspiring

The building looks ok, but I don't care much for the name.

Chicago has a far superior skyline (to NYC) anyway.;)

Yeah. Back a few years ago when they had the design contest, I did a current even assignment over it. There's some nice ideas that went into it.

I believe there's a circular opening that they designed so that at the time of the first hit the sun will shine through it onto a monument or something on the ground.

The fact is, even if they built two towers that looked the same, it will never be the same. There's no way you can make up for what's missing.

I think some people feel that we should just rebuild the same towers, as if it somehow signifies that you can destroy whatever we'll just rebuild it, but that is not good thinking in my opinion.

Hmm, looks like the design that originally won is not what they are building.

This sounds goofy but I mean it sincerely: why isn't there an anti-aircraft missile or phalanx on top? Wouldn't that make sense?

Or are we just going to have f-22's doing constant laps around the thing? (Or hovering, that would be cool.)

it may have some kind of secret security measures, who knows. but you can be sure that F16s would be in the area in minutes if an aircraft were acting funky in the NYC area.

ya very true. Maybe that's why I was so discontent over it. It just did not look right.

You somehow interpretted what I wanted to say, but couldn't because my brain is just screwy and too angry lol.

NYC has its own, almost, art-decco-type/symmetrical/industrial/extravagant/gothic style.
Having some newage-type (sorry, i'm no architect, so I donno the biulding style terms, heh.. just pulling words out of my arse) biulding just doesn't seem right.

I wanna know how much they'll go over the budget when this thing's done.

Ps. That's one ugly design/tower. They might as well build a giant middle finger, w/ the giant letters "America, Fvck Yeah!" down the middle.

I agree, I don't like the new Phallic Tower. I'd rather have them build two new towers that look the same as the old ones, but maybe make them a little taller.

It's the former. A new look. Click Launch to view illustrations of how the Freedom Tower would look from different viewpoints.

I think that building looks pretty darn nice. It's different and doesn't totally fit with everything else, but who cares.

We should not be rebuilding two towers to "replace" the twin towers. They are gone, and we will always remember what happened. Why not start with something new? A building like this shouts to the world that our society will not break apart, or collapse no matter what evil wants to do.

I think one tower and a memorial is a perfect fit for the city. You could really use a little more greenspace anyway :p
