I went to Jerry's Subs and Pizza. They advertise big in the DC/Va/MD area. they have dozens of locations.

Heard they were expensive. (i guess how else to afford all those ads.) but also heard the food was good.

i was hungry and decided to try one. $11 for medium sub, fries, and drink.
(Sidenote: it was good, but not worth the $11.)

anyway, i paid w/credit card. To my surprise, i had to sign it.
I'm used to McDonalds and Starbucks where you dont have to sign for anything under $20.

whatever, i go and sign. Then i saw a TIP line on the receipt. WTF?!

I guess they think if the customers are willing to shell out $11 for a sub/fries/drink then they're willing to pay some more?

I found it tacky for a fast food restaurant to have the TIP line on their receipts.

DISCUSS!

I've read that it's just the default template for fast food/restaurant type POS, the restaurant doesn't really choose to have it included (though they can choose to get it taken out).

maybe it's just the default on their POS system printing?

why choose that template for a fast food restaurant? and why not take it out?

it just seems silly since it goes against society's expectations for fast food restaurants to have a tip line. since they've been in business for years, i assume customers havent rebelled against.

But it certainly turned me off

Maybe George W Bush put it there.

Seriously...if this was the worst part of your day, you had a damn good day.

Why not include this in your other tipping thread you started? You know...the one that is still on the first page?

Maybe you can't modify the template? If this irks you so much, call the company that supplied the printing system and ask them

there doesn't seem to be much downside. 99% of customers will leave the line blank and they're only out the ink cost of printing a single line on a receipt.

it's kinda like the tip cup at Dunkin Donuts... even if all I'm dropping into the cup are the pennies that I don't feel like walking around with, they're making a profit.

there is a downside by using their current POS.
the customer signing the receipt is going to slow the line down.

thats why mcdonalds and starbucks dont require u to sign if it's under $20.
