Maybe because it's a decent movie? I wouldn't have thought it would be, but 8 Mile wasn't bad either.

he had a brain aneurysm AFAIK. it was back in 1999 i think. leading up to it he was (very obviously) undergoing chemo.

Yeah, of course. Ebert even went so far as to marry a black woman to avoid that label.

there was a discussion about this previosuly. Ever since Ebert had the cancer, he hasn't given a single movie less than 3 stars. He's grateful that he's overcome the cancer, so nothing is bad compared to cancer.

Hence two thumbs up for fiddy

It's directed by Jim Sheridan, a very critically acclaimed director/writer/producer. Maybe it's actually a decent movie.

Either that, or the studio paid off Ebert and Roper quite handsomely.

Yeah, cause if two white guys give an honest two thumbs down . . . 50 cent, the NAACP, and all of black america will riot and kill people. blah. that sucks :(

It just might be a decent movie. Like someone else said, 8 Mile wasn't a terrible film.
