wtf dl manager on firefox sucks

why can't I just use the good old method from firebird 0.7 where it has a download window for every download?

omg the new dl manager is soooooo slow. maybe it's just my comp, but it seriously freezes the entire gui for several seconds each time I start a dl or one finishes.

that's not good. i love the download manager. though, i wish they had an option to change the mananger to dialog box or side bar.


i dunno if this fix will do anything but you can try this

- open firefox
- type about:config into the URL
- in the filter box type download and a bunch of entries should come up
-browser.download.manager.openDelay change to value from 500 to something smaller .. 50 or 10 or whatever. see if that makes a difference.

Yeah. I have the same problem. Completely locks up firefox for at least 10 seconds every time I try to download a file. I shut off download manager and it's faster now (still freezes briefly), but now it doesn't pop up a progress window anymore! You just have a phantom download and have to check your download directory every once in a while to see if the download finished.

There are a couple alternatives, although none of them will exactly bring back the old download manager.

One is the Download Manager Extension, which shrinks it down a bit. (I don't know if it will help performance.)

Another is the Download Statusbar, which gives you the option of eliminating the download manager altogether.

I downloaded the latest nightly build and changed some of the browser.download.manager settings to 0. Not sure which fixed it, but it's a lot faster now.
