I received a dell mobo with s478, ddr, and sata... Thre was a 2.4 celeron on there, but no clip for hs/f... so i stole one from my dead DFI motherboard, and threw on the stock heatsink... now, dell has a fancy fan jumper clip, so I had to remove it with plyers.. the computer didn't work without it so I randomly threw a jumper on it, and when I turned the computer on, something went 'BBBBZZZIIP!!!" and a bunch of smoke rose from the board. after looking around, I noticed an LED was on that wasn't before..and there was a big black spot on the board... Funny thing is, it still works. The only problem is, when I restart, it restarts, but screen goes blank, I have to hit restart button twice... Odd, but I got it working.
ANyways, just wanted to share what happens when you short out a fan jumper on a dell motherboard. I hate dells..... (argh, RDRAM)...
