WTF Dell makes WHITE computers now?

Huh, so I've bought about 10 Dell computers over the last 3 years, and my E510 just arrived... and the damn thing is white. Now I have a huge dell monitor (black) a dell keyboard (black) dell speakers (black) and a dell color laser printer that is big enough to eat small children (black) and a WHITE mid tower case.

WTF?

That's pretty stupid that it wasn't clear that they could be white, fineprint or not. I guess they're just trying to accomodate the Mac crossovers.

The one with the silver on the front? I just got mine about a month ago (if it is the same model you have, probably so), but I think it looks nice. The panels on the side are white, but the front is silver just to clear it up for anyone, and I put stickers that I got from different graphic design sites (I'll link to some later) to decorate it. Looks very nice. 🙂

Edit: found a pic

Yea they haven't had white machines (well beige) since 2000, when they went to the P4 line they became black. Heh, I'm wondering if they're doing this because of the processor that is inside, (assuming you've got a 'Core' Processor) since those are based off the Pentium M which is based off the PIII, correct? 😛 A testimate to the PIII and earlier line?

Go to Dell's site and look at the Dimension E510.

I hardly glanced at the tiny photos, but I just assumed it was grey/silver which matches all the rest of my Dell periperhals... but yes, it has two big metal stamped side panels that are apple ipod white.. and a silver/black front...

It is really pretty fugly.

Link here, shown center. KNOWING that it is white, it is clear from the photo. But looking at the 3 in profile I just figured they got lighter in shade of grey/silver...

Edit: LOL re: UglyCasanova - guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.. but I bought a Dell because I wanted a no-nonsense machine, and I get this froofy white crap... agh.

Dell Dimensions are not no-nonsense. You buy an Optiplex for that.

I have a 5150 (same thing). I think it looks pretty nice (and more importantly is QUIET!). Most of dell's consumer line (Dimension/Inspiron) is silver/white/black.

I like the way it matches my 700m. 😛

Yeah, it's pretty lame. Darker colors are automatically cooler than light ones. Back when Apple made black stuff, it looked MUCH cooler...my old Powerbook G3 was dead sexy compared to the stupid beige PC laptops of the time.

I mean, we have the Stealth bomber, the M16, Black Ops, the Apache, Samuel L. Jackson, film noir, nightclubs, leather wallets, and the dark side of the Force, all much better than the Boeing 747, the Super Soaker, Boy Scouts, Bell Jet Rangers, Paris Hilton, soap operas, spas, Barbie purses, and the light side of the Force.

QED.

Mine might have been quiet once, before I added a Raptor and an x850xt pe 😛

I want to try the 4GHz OC, but I doubt the PSU could take it.

4GHz overclock?! What processor do you have?

Can with a pin trick. (page 5, near the bottom, has a good picture of what to do...the next page has voltages) Not 100% success rate, but it's reversible.

Also, some other Dells are OCable via softFSB, but I don't think it supports this mobo's PLL.

The 630 is pretty much the only one that stands a chance of success, based on the pin trick. Maybe softFSB will eventually incorporate the 5150's PLL.

No, it's because they THINK white is in vogue. But if you look at HP's and Apple's lines, they are going to glossy black. Glossy black is the new glossy white!

That's really freaking cool. I can live with my 820 @ stock, it works fine for Media Center duties. 🙂

Hmm... not sure that is the right move for them. I personally thought the charcoal color was their best color, and was a bit peeved when they switched all their laptops over to silver. Then I saw a few silver/charcoal hybrids, but this silver/white does not look appealing at all.

LOL well at least I'm getting entertaining replies. 🙂

No, seriously, the issue at hand is that I have all this other dell equipment without a spec of white on it and then this thing shows up. I just found it very odd.

And after spending a month agonizing over which dell laptop to buy, and eventually giving up trying to figure out what they looked like from the 160x160 pixel photos they offered, I never even though to look twice at the desktop photo. After all I've bought machine after machine and they've come in matte black clamshell cases.

It isn't the end of the world - but if someone has an e310 I'd be happy to trade panels with them. 🙂
