WTF? Comcast....

Yesterday after Comcast had our internet connections down at a small business....when we brought some webpages back up it said we had to install Comcast software to be able to view webpages and that an account for that computer had to be created. WTF?? This is several computers behind a router. 🙁

Is Comcast getting their systems ready or something to make you install their software on your PC to access the internet now??

To connect to the web? No. I doubt it. (Possible, but would damage their business too much for them to seriously consider.)

To connect to a specific set of pages that Comcast hosts? possibly. You'll have to call and ask them.

Is your homepage set to comcast.net? Comcast has been converting their webpages to Flash based pages for a few months, it might just be a plug-in update.

No.....we tried to access different pages and the same one popped up for a while. www.msn.com www.cnn.com blah blah.... There is one computer with Comcast's software loaded onto it. It was the ONLY one that was able to access the internet!!
I believe the message said something like Welcome to Comcast Computer Account not Found. Please contact Comcast with computer information and install software located here <link>

its possible. You can setup authentication so that people have to log in before using the internet, even with no software installed.

this technology is used in a lot of hotel and wireless services.

basically any browser or http/https request is redirected by the network to an authentication page.

ya, comcast sux!

I still hate them for taking away my free cable bundled with internet access :| now all I have is local channels 🙁

OK, do your have a residential or commercial account?

Comcast Pro since its a SB. Not really a commercial account. They don't host our website.
I would contact Comcast and see if they authorized a update/upgrade for your SB software.
