the little icon that shows 'network cable is disconnected' pops up every like 30-45 min or so.. what gives?

is it my modem?
or my new wireless 54g router?

Actually I have comcast and I see that once in a while on my windows 2000 computer, but any downloads keep going. I'm not sure what it has to do with its sexual orientation though. 😕

nope, it's definitely comcast's sexual orientation.

Indeed.

At least his your connection is only gay... mine went transexual on me! :Q

Pics?

The network cable disconnected message would be an issue with the wireless connection; the comp isn't detecting a link to the LAN. How's signal strength, etc?

my icon pops up too saying a wire has been disconnected...and my net freezes...then everything goes back to normal. stupid comcast...the net sometimes goes down for hours .

I had this problem with my linksys wireless router, I'm on roadrunner.

I updated the firmware on the router, and have had no problems since.

If you use a router (and everyone should!) then don't blame comcast from the start!

UPDATE your Bios on the Router
Change out the Cable that you use to connect to the routher with.

If the icon still apears (and always asuming you connecting to a routher) then I would change out teh nic.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you should not get an icon if your modem goes down and you connect not to it directly but to a routher first!

Wait you're connected to some shtty router and not directly into the modem but you're thinking it's comcast's fault?

ok, lets see the reasons why it WOULDN'T be the fault of Comcast/modem.
you're PC connects to the router. that's the only thing that windows directly knows about. does it care whether comcast/modem has a connection? NO, as far as windows is concerned, you're still connected to your LAN, therefore it's not the fault of Comcast or the modem.

so we've narrowed it down now. it's either windows, router, or your NIC.

duh, QED~! 😛

I sense the problem is between the chair and the keyboard. But I want Comcast to love me and your post gives me hope!
