Cool! I just noticed that my NB fan on my ASUS A8N-SLI died. Beats me when, had my computer on for about two months. I decided it might be time to reboot just to be on the safe side, but then POST warned me that chipset fan was dead.
I went on to check it and it really doesn't spin. Heatsink is rather hot to the touch, I would estimate around 45 - 50 degrees celsius. NTune reports temps in the low 40s just as it always did.
So now I have two options as I see it: either replace the fan (MB is still under warranty) or replace the whole crap excuse for a fan / heatsink combo with Zalman ZM-NB47J passive heatsink.
Would the second option be viable in light of the reported temps? I sure don't plan to hang any fan over the passive heatsink, but wouldn't like my MB to die on me either.
