I placed an order with cajungrocer.com on December 12th, 2004 and paid $53.53 for FedEx Overnight shipping. On their website it says to place in your comments if you'd like to receive the food at a later date. I asked for my package to arrive on December 22nd, 2004.
Since I paid for FedEx Overnight, I assumed my package would ship out yesterday and would arrive today. I normally don't like paying for Overnight but since this is food I'm ordering I figured it'd be best to pay for it.
So yesterday I receive my tracking number ... great. Didn't end up in the system until this morning, but when I checked this morning it says FedEx 2-day with an estimated delivery time of December 23rd ... wtf? Not to mention, FedEx says they haven't received the package and the tracking number is just a notification so far.
So I call up the company, and as usual the CSR isn't helpful and only says "We don't guarantee delivery times for Christmas" (which isn't what their website says, it just says if you receive the food after the fact and its spoiled they will refund you in full - No Christmas disclaimer). They also claim that FedEx isn't guaranteeing delivery times which is untrue too, FedEx is just allowing a 90 minute time window for time guaranteed deliveries like the ones that say you'll receive it by 12pm for December 20-24th deliveries.
So I tell her about the website and how even without the website that they shipped it using the wrong method (which she couldn't comprehend for some reason), and the CSR says she needs to speak to her manager and she'll call me back. She calls me back about 5 minutes later and says she stands by what she says ... Can't do anything, thats the way it works. I speak to her manager and she agrees to give me $10 back since they messed up the shipping type.
So now since I'm concerned, I call FedEx and they tell me that the tracking information on their end (which is sometimes more up to date) and they say they haven't received anything.
So I call them back and ask if they can still upgrade to FedEx Overnight since nothing has shipped yet and the manager agrees. But as of this point, I have no idea if it will arrive on time, nor do I know if I'll still get the $10 refund ... which isn't really all that important I guess.
If it ships out today FedEx Overnight and arrives on the 23rd, then its not the end of the world. Even if it arrives on the 24th, we can still quick defrost the food so its ready for the 25th..
But if it arrives the week after Christmas then it will be much too late to eat for dinner on the 25th 🙂
Does anyone know if I have any recourse if the food arrives late? I think I should be entitled to my full $100+ back for the food but I'm sure CajunGrocer will claim that Christmas shipments aren't guarenteed ... even though their website doesn't state anything like that. In my opinion, a company can't make up a policy on the phone to defend themselves and not post it up for public viewing to get them out of a guarantee they've posted on their website ... but legally maybe I'm wrong?
In any case, I think in the future I'll be going to Wegman's locally to pick up my food since CajunGrocer doesn't seem to be able to deliver food as promised.
