WTF are the clothing designers thinking?

laughable to say the least. lots of designer clothes don't make it off the catwalk. the funky designs are meant for displaying the designers' creativity...i think.

Aren't these items sometimes like concept cars? Meaning that they just show off the talent of the designer and are not meant for retail sale.

a plastic bag over one's head sounds more like a fetish design

its also used to display the "motifs" , colors, fabrics, and patterns which will likely be the new in style....i dont think the designs are to be taken literally like you would actually see that outfit in a store or something.

I think it sets a bad example for little kids everywhere.

At least with a bag over the head the buyins for that fashion aren't going to make it to the 2005 paris fashion week. Maybe the fashion designers realized that they needed to cull their fanbase a little?

Gigapet is correct. These shows in Paris are intended to draw attention to not only the designers themselves, but to also showcase the use of fabrics, colours, patterns, cut, etc. Of course helmets and bags won't be sold in the shops next season.

The shows in New York, Montreal, and Milan are more influencial on clothes you and I buy. Designers and for clothing chains found in suburban malls find their inspiration at these shows. This is why when one store carries a certain kind of item they all do.
