WTF? Are hotels usually outrageously expensive in Dublin?

Or is it because they are jacking up rates for the World Special Olympics.

It costs $1200 USD for 8 nights at a friggin comfort in. Over $1700 for 8 nights at a 4 star. What the hell???

I paid about $100 for a night in a pretty nice hotel across from the mail bus terminal. SO yeah, sounds like they are jacking the prices up.

Check into the nicer hostels.

That doesn't sound very unreasonable...

$150 a night really isn't that much.

Also:

Their four star hotels are like the Bellagio in Vegas. I stayed at a 4 star when i first got there, next to the airport, and it was luxury.

The prices actually sound pretty resonable for Dublin. Dublin is an expensive city to get a hotel in. (not to mention the poor exchange rate for the Dollar)

I think we're going to do some big spiffy hotel(four star) across the commons from Trinity College. Don't know the name of it...my wife is booking things right now. It's $210 a night USD :frown:

I want to say the Harrington...but she rambled off about three or four names and that might not have been the one she booked.

I was in dublin(CA) last summer and I paid $1600 for two weeks at the holiday inn. I think there was a gvt discount though because I was doing my National Guard annual training.

Now it may be nearly impossible to still get a room, but when I went to Dublin with my girlfriend we stayed in a B&B in a decent part of the city (pronounced Rat-Moins...but spelled differently...something like Rathemous or something)...Anyhow, took the bus around every where we went and had a great time...the room was actually the nicest of any of the B&B's we stayed at in Ireland and the Bus was very cheap. One night we took a taxi back to the B&B (it was very late) and I think we only spent like 20 euros. I don't know if it is too late to go down that route...but a B&B only cost like 45 or less euros...so it should be a much better deal...of course they could be jacking up their prices as well.

B&B are what we would have preferred, but any decent ones filled up months ago. We didn't even know if we were going to go up until about a month ago :frown:

yeah...that is what I figured. Well, I'm sure you will enjoy the hotel across from Trinity College...I remember number of really great hotels in that area...plus a nice little park in that direction (started with an M...can't remember...right across from the National Art Gallery).

Anyway, have a great trip to Dublin...make sure to make it around the city...a lot of things to see...definitely go to the Guinness Brewery...but ask directions on the way...if you try to go based on what the maps say...you'll be walking around for hours...the brewery is huge and the tourist center is not that obvious and kind of out of the way down several alleys...fun experience though...the bar on top of the brewery is great...just make sure you have a camera handy).

Be careful, because often quoted hotel rates don't include all the taxes. That can jack up your bill by 20%, no kidding.

And if you are getting flights, car, and a hotel, check with the AAA travel agency and see if they have a package deal. Can't hurt to check.

Yeh, that was what really scared me....not knowing if taxes were included or not :\

We ended up booking a $90 3 star hotel through expedia which is usually very good about detailing expenses. We booked our tickets through them as well.

Perhaps, but they're pretty cheap in Dubai!! I say switch the last couple of letters on your destination of choice and save a few bucks!

Damn man visit canada, the USD will go far. People in newfoundland have somewhat similar accents to irish folk anyway and I guarantee you won't be paying $100+ night!

That's not too bad...I just spen $149 a night (plus taxes and parking fees) to stay on Bourbon St. in New Orleans last week...of course it was right during Jazz Fest and the hotel was nice...but I am not used to paying that much to stay somewhere.
