WTF... AIM?

I was sitting here watching TV with AIM on my computer when I hear it start talking. I look over and at the top, an ad is playing some sort of commercial... WTF? When did they start doing this?
 
Very annoying. I have noticed this in the past as well. In addition, AIM installs a couple of third-party programs of dubious value.
 
if you go into the AIM folder, there's a file aim.odl. open it with a text editor like notepad or something. comment out all the lines that load advert with a semicolon ;. i've heard this prevents AIM from downloading new ads with those annoying sounds
 
another vote for Trillian... can never go back to those individual messengers. It makes everything so simple.
 
What is so great about Trillian other than having one program for all messengers?

Just looking for a little enlightenment.

you can skin it also, there are no adds, its also free, it has cool plugins
 
google it. there are ways to edit aim files to block the talking ads. or edit the host file.

i forgot the site.
