i bought it from Best Buy. it has a power switch on the back too... which is decidedly UN-Antec, especially if it was a smartpower...

Yeah, it probably because someone bought it and took out the PSU, put their crappy PSU in it, and returned it. Bring it back to Best Buy and complain. Codegen PSU suck.

edit: yeah, what he said ^

The Antec SX835II should come with an Antec SmartPower 350. I wonder if someone bought the case/PSU, swapped PSUs and returned it.

Does it state anywhere on the box that it comes with the Antec PSU? If not, I dunno if theres anything you can do about it. Try to explain and exchange for the same item? I'm not sure if bestbuy will charge you a restocking fee or not.

Good luck

Try and return it Best buy is good about things like that, as far as i know there is no restocking fee.

You may want to exchange it, but this time check it before you take it out of the store to make sure you get an Antec PSU.

FWIW, I've had a 350W Codegen PSU (came with my Codegen ATX-9001 case) for at least two years. This sucker has been happily powering my dual-Athlon+3-hard-drive system for well over a year now ... and its not even on AMD's approved list for dual-Athlon systems!

I bought that same case from New Egg for my friend last week. The pics they have show an Antec brand p/s:

SX835II pics

I can't remember actually looking at the label on his p/s, but I'll check it as soon as I can (may take a week). His does have an on/off switch on it. I'm pretty sure I checked it to make sure it was the correct one when I assembled the machine.

sorry about that.
but I'd like to point out that CG psus don't SUCK. they're great compared to most psus that come with cheapo chassis

Of course they don't, but the guy paid for an Antec and that's what he should get :)
Now if they don't agree to replace or charge a fee or something else, I would keep the psu and see for myself if it is reliable.

Maybe Antec has switched suppliers or used a second source for any number of reasons. Generally they use CWT and are labelled with Antec brand stickers. Have someone at Best Buy check another box and exchange it if it is not the same.

i called Antec and they said they ONLY use Antec psupplies and dont know what codegen is and dont know how it got there and cant help me

so i took the case to best buy. first they told me i had to take it to the tech guys, cuz the csr knew nothing about what i was talking about. then they said there might be a problem cuz i bought the case about 2 months ago (over the 30 day or 14 day limit), and i didnt have a receipt, although i did have credit card i bought it on and credit card statement showing date of purchase. then they tried to replace it with another antec case, because this one i got had been on clearance and i got the last one. but i had grabbed one of the 350w smart power psu's and explained that this was what was supposed to come in the case and why not just give me this (in retrospect, perhaps i should have taken one of the new cases? but i knew nothing about them and wasnt prepared for that option). of course, i had paid $55 for the case + psupply, and they were selling just the psupply for $65 alone, so they had to go open one of the new antec cases and double check that an antec psupply came with it. then they gave me the swap.

it may sound like a hassle, but i was actually pretty satisfied with the experience, it just took about 30 minutes to get done. i had to talk to like 5 different people, including 2 managers, but there was no arguing or confrontational-ness, they were just being thorough with a lot of making-sure, but were all friendly and helpful through out, i didnt have to explain anything more than once they took me at my word. i was surprised at how easy it was :)

still not sure how the codegen got in there, the box appeared to be in brand new packaging, and best buy insisted it was not opened box or anything. antec doesnt use codegen, so only conlcusion i can guess is that someone bought it and was very careful to reseal it perfectly and claim it was unopened when they returned it
