WTF? $3800 repair cost on veh valued @ $5150 = NOT a total loss??

Just got a message from my insurance. They say they're about $800 off from a total loss. They want me to take it in to a shop to get a second estimate on it.

That just doesn't seem right....repairs = approx 74% of the value :disgust:

Usually go by 70-75%. Sometimes 80%. Must be worth more than you think.

I actually thought it was worth more they they think.

Well insurance companies can be quirky like that. I am pretty sure my car, which was rear ended a few weeks ago, will at least cost 80% of the vehicles value to repair.
But it seems to me they are going to fix it.
Plus a few weeks of a rental car, that probably about $300 more.

This guy is a hoot.

Just spoke to him. He still thinks it's a total, but not by his own estimate. As he can't tell if the frame is damaged or not, and can't get any info on replacing the driver seat which is damaged now (thanks to my samoan azz being slammed in to it).

He wants us to take it to a shop and have them take it apart and determine the cost and IF they can repair it.

Which sets off other junk, as the shop has said, if they take it apart, there's no putting it back together as is. It's either repaired or totaled. And on top of that, it's not a drop it off for a couple hours for the estimate, then pick it up and make a decision.

I am having the exact same problem with my car. It's in the shop right now, and they are still doing an estimate. I brought it in last wednesday. Almost 1 week and they still can't tell me anything. But hey, if the insurance company wants to keep shelling out the cash for a rental, so be it.

If they total it, don't take a penny less than the value of the car. Argue, bitch, whine, do whatever you have to do.

Yeah, the shop also said it would be a couple weeks for any repair to complete. But after explaining the damage, they too think it's a total.

Jeeze, what a pain in the ass.
