probably 5 arrays of 4 drives so 4.8TB realistically.

Either way...with that many drives raid 1+0 isn't a good option.

Not for write speeds, no. RAID-5 is the sux0rz for write speed unless you have a good controller, a BBUM, and the right write-cache turned on.

Not for write speeds, no. RAID-5 is the sux0rz for write speed unless you have a good controller, a BBUM, and the right write-cache turned on.

What's a BBUM? I would think any controller that could handle 20 drives, if they make them, would be decent and costly.
