My fiance grandparents need a new VCR.

They are movie buffs, so they need the following:

Non - sony brand - Because they already have a sony and the remote would play both at the same time.
Pause + frame by frame = pause the image, and then go frame by frame- Has to have the best quality.
On VCR counter - on the display where the clock is, it should say how long you have, and how much time it has passed

Where can i buy it from?

Circuit City has the best selection in my area, but you probably need to go to a store to see if you can display both of those things at the same time.

Most if not all Circuit City's have stopped selling VCR's here of late.

Panasonic, JVC or Toshiba should have a model which meets your needs.

Best buy has a decent selection. I personally like Panasonic's ones. My only issue with them is that they rewind loudly.

I went o CC, bb, sound advice, and here in miami: Brandsmart.

I trid SVHS too, and none of them have quality. Some of them panasonic has the features but they are just not good.

Even their old VHS is times better than the new ones.

Many Sony VCRs have had the ability to set the remote to control two, or even three Sony VCRs seperately. I don't know if the new ones have this ability, but I don't know why they wouldn't.

Ummmm if they're such movie buffs why don't they get a DVD player?

Failing that you might want to check some specialty stores that only do home theatre equipment, they would probably have what you're looking for in a VCR. The thing is those features you mention are pretty much standard fare for DVD players.

EDIT: Perhaps this will fit their needs?

I have a JVC SVHS rig myself. It has jog shuttle (i.e. frame by frame) and all sorts of other cool features, though as it is the consumer model and not the professional model I can't do insert editing. (If you've ever taped over something and seen that sort of rainbow effect at the beginning that is caused when something is recorded off-phase with the previously taped material. Insert editing puts in the new stuff in-phase so that you don't get that rainbow effect) It cost me $200 but it was really worth it. My only gripe is pretty obscure: it can't record at LP speed. (Halfway between SP and EP. Expands a 2 hour tape to hold 4 hours) I realize it's a format hardly anyone used back in the day and that you never see on VCRs anymore, but I figured that with as many features as it had it would be able to do that. (It can still play LP stuff though)

Anyway, I got it at Costco, though you can order it from the JVC site most likely.
