WTB: Logitch Z680 or Klipsch Promedia 5.1

I am currently looking to buy a 5.1 speaker system and can't decide which to get.

Logitech Z680
or
Klipsch Promedia 5.1

I had the Promedia 5.1 in the past and loved them and basically would like to know if the Z680 are better. I am mainly concerned with sound quality and would like the speaker system to have all 5 speakers at the same volume level when listening to mp3 music. Thanks!

One more thing, does anyone know if the Z680 have an input for 5.1 digital sound instead of analog. Just wondering

Some discussion on the Z-680

You will never have all 5 speakers in the same volume level. The only way to get 5 speaker output is to use Dolby Pro Logic II "Music" mode, which will give you output from all 5 speakers. However, it will sound as if the vocals are coming from the center channel (much like when you're watching a DVD).

There are two types of digital inputs you can connect to the Z-680 -- digital coax and optical. In order to get 5.1 sound when you're playing music you'll still have to run it in Dolby Pro Logic II "Music" mode. I used to do that but I think it sounds far better in regular Stereo and Stereo x2 (four speaker output) mode.

Based on other people's opinions, the Promedia 5.1 seems to be higher rated. I have not heard either set unfortunately.

Oh, word of warning on the Klipschs -- waltz on over to the Klipsch forums and read about the problems with their 5.1s. Apparently the amps blow on those way too often, and it isn't unusual for a customer to go through 2 or 3 sets in a matter of a year.
