I've been watching a lot of old gaming videos on Youtube recently and they have been making me really nostalgic for some old school gaming. Since I do not have any of my old consoles anymore I am looking to replicate some of the classic gaming on my PC, through my Steam account.

So can you please recommend some fun, cheap, old school style games (looking mainly at platformers) that are available on Steam?

I plan on using my 360 controller to play, even though I'm not really a fan of the controller, but I'm assuming most of these would play better on the controller.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, never played that one; I know I was supposed to, but never got around to it.

Just a note, it does not necessarily have to be an old game, just in the style of some of those old games.

Find a copy of Abuse - I hear it runs well in DosBOX.

Sounds like work, but thanks anyway.

Giana Sisters. Tough, but fun.

Looks cool. Going to try the demo as soon as I get home.

Trine 1 and 2. 2D puzzle platformer, but with beautiful 3D graphics.

I think I played a bit of the second one. Interesting game; I will have to check out the firstone.

No DRM, cheap prices, and some actual classics.

Thanks, but that does not really work for me.

Volgarr the Viking.

It is brutal. It is 2D Dark Souls.

Looks awesome. Thanks.

Maybe slightly different than you want but check out Risk of Rain.

Looks interesting; can't really tell how it works from the pics I saw.

braid maybe? platformer with a twist

vessel is kind of cool as well.

Man, I am awful at Braid. I should give it another shot at some point. Vessel looks cool though, thanks!

If it doesn't have to be old school, then check out Mark of the Ninja.

That is by far the best modern platformer I've played in a long time.

Looks very cool; pretty neat take on the genre by the look of it.

By the way Steam, can I just attach my damn age to my account so I don't have to input it every time I want to look at a game with some blood and guts in it? Thanks.

At home it does, but not on the app. Sorry, I should have clarified. Honestly I think it should not even pop up at all if I have my age tied to the account.

DRM free doesn't work for you...?
You would rather buy Trine on Steam with DRM than Trine on GoG without DRM even though it's the same price?

Spelunky! Tis an awesome 2D platformer with randomly generated levels, controls are tight but beware the difficulty. I've been playing it for over 100 hours and can't put it down til I get the good ending.

Nice, looks super fun. I'm in. Thanks.

Played Giana Sisters demo yesterday; I like it and will probably grab it. I had to play Keyboard/Mouse though since I apparently do not have a cord for my Xbox 360 controller (that made it a lot more difficult); once I get a cord it should be a lot easier to play.

It will be easier to play until you get to around the 4th area. Then it gets tough regardless of what you use ;)

Heh, yeah, I can see that happening. It actually took me a little bit to get accustomed to the graphics and controls. I would be walking along and just suddenly die because I could not tell if something was harmful or not. Once I got acclimated it was pretty fun though. I do wish the "punk" soundtrack was actually a little more punk though.
