WRX Wagons

They are a reliable choice correct? what would one with about 63k miles for an 02 would you say is a good deal?

i found one in my area for 13k asking price, maybe drop him down to 11?

just wondering, im trying to get an awd vehicle thats reliable, and a wagon is even better because of storage space.

its basically a stripper model, no upgrades etc, but its a blue wagon.

I love mine and have had no problems with it at all.

Subaru service is also top notch.

You can come test drive mine if you bring me a bottle of something nice 😉

My family has owned three with no manufacturer caused problems.

You'd probably be a little safer with the wagon, but I'd assume any used WRX to be driven pretty hard. Check it out as best you can, especially if its a younger driver.

Out of curiosity, I loaded up autotrader to see what was in my area - I thought I saw the same one you were looking at, blue wagon, 2002, $13,000 but it's got $68,000 miles and is in Livonia, MI.

Extremely from my (parents') experience.

Parents have two, an '86 GL-10 and a '01 Forester S. The Forester they picked up recently after looking for a fuel-efficient, reliable, and easy-to-drive & park small SUV. The huge sunroof on that thing didn't hurt. Neither did the 6-disc in-dash changer, tow package, roof rack, and keyless entry. Having had the swell experience they had with the GL-10, Subaru seemed like the obvious choice, and the Forester was it.

The GL-10 has been to hell & back, what with being absolutely totaled about 3 or 4 times already, lol. They bought it new, and my parents weren't the best with taking care of it maintenance-wise... and even after a recent accident that punched in the rear bumper and bottom of trunk, the car starts and runs flawlessly. Chassis is still in great shape despite having suffered severe damage in a previous wreck.

Even though the car is only worth a couple hundred max now ($25 if THEY drive it in to Ecology, lol) they're thinking of repairing the body with some of the money they'll be collecting from the other party and their insurance ($2000-2500 to fix was the estimate I think and that was really, really, really on the faaaar low-end of the estimates). It has well over 100k miles, but the car runs like a champ, is still good with gas, the A/C can still freeze passengers, and it can still haul quite a bit with the fold-down seats and relatively ample trunk. They now think the car 'deserves' the love after what it's been put through.

I gotta get around to taking pictures of that unstoppable, Frankenstein wreck of a car. 😀

Find out the history of the car. Especially if it was modded.

My 04 WRX Wagon has 280hp aswell... I got alot of ****** on it... Downpipe, ecu upgrade, short throw shifter, shifter bushing, transmission mount.. alot of stuff 😛

Mine was very reliable, but at 63k it really depends on the driving habits of the PO.

When they first came out WRXs attracted idiots like no other car on the road - teenagers who bought one never having driven a stickshift, morons who did 6500RPM clutch drops ten times a day and then bitched on NASIOC that Subaru trannies don't last, people who totally ignored the break-in period, or ran ridiculous amounts of boost with no engine management....it goes on and on. Usually those guys ended up wrapping theirs around trees (and then bitiching on NASIOC about how the tires/suspension/AWD suck), but some cars manage to scuttle through. Make sure yours isn't one of them, and you'll have a great car.

As long as it wasn't abused or heavily modded and the usual scheduled maintenance was taken care of, it should be great. Fun/sporty, decently quick, and very practical.

Pretty darned reliable over the past decade and a half or two. Subaru was recent named most reliable brand from Consumer Reports IIRC. I forget if it was last year or the year before that.

But the stock tires DO suck, regardless of what the idiots say.

True, but God bless 'em, they thin the herd.

on the guy w/ the GL-10... family had an 84 GL and it was a POS. ALWAYS in the shop. meticulously maintained as well. electrical problems out the ying yang, always ran funny, always serviced by subie.

threw a rod in ~94 with 80k miles.

Other than their gastly awful looks, they are good cars... but very small inside. my friend has a 2002, i swear it's smaller inside than my 2001 neon.

I own one also. Never had a problem with it even with modifying the crap out of it. I do suggest some suspension work, and as somone already said a good set of road tires. But these things are just extra at the minimum, and "out of the box" its a fun and reliable car to drive. Had mine for 2 years so far and havent' had an issue yet (thats with running AutoX and dragging the hell out of it on a regular basis).
