Buying someone else's modded car is asking for headaches. Even if it wouldn't be your daily driver, strongly consider buying a stock one and modding yourself.

QFT. It's dangerous getting something that you know very little about.

That car would be a beast - heavily modified STi with > 500hp. A friend of mine recently swapped a full STi v4 JDM drive train w/ Hydra EMS into a 1997 Impreza and that already scared me. :) It's not a daily drive tho... for obvious reasons.

That said, i'd be hesitant about buying such a vehicle. For one, where will you be maintaining it? Show up at a Subaru dealer and they will show you the door. How has the car the been treated pre/post mods? Has it seen track time? I would suspect it has, but who knows.

I suppose a good question is why are you looking at a vehicle like this? Would it be your only car/daily driver? If so, i'd be tempted to look for a stock or very lightly modified WRX (STi if you must) for the simple fact that it can be serviced locally.

When we were 17 and my best friend and I were both looking for our first cars, we were really into the late 80's/early 90's muscle. I remember we printed out a listing for a lower mileage, reasonably priced GNX that my friend really liked and wanted to have his parents take him to look at. I still live by his dad's wisdom on that car today: "It's low miles because they were put on a quarter mile at a time."

1. I think you would be lucky to get 18 mpg on the highway with those mods (and using 91 minimum octane to boot)
2. Don't like the way he states "is in GOOD condition". I want a car that the seller considers is in EXCELLENT condition. If the owner thinks the car is only good it probably isn't.
3. If he knows the car is FAST it's because he has run the hell out of it. Ask him if has any 1/4 mile times on it.
4. What are you planning to use it for?

FWIW, I have an 06 Legacy GT wagon (no mods) which is quick enough for me but you could just look for an STI and save a ton of money. Subis' are great cars.

Well this guy made some choices I wouldn't have.

It's much better to get a low mileage, stock or close to it, STI and build it up the way you want.

He's not clear on what kind of miles he has on the shortblock/turbo, sure 40K, but is that on the chassis or the built motor.

Anyways, not worth it.

you build cars like that to race and also with the mind set of if it blows on you, you build a bigger stronger motor.

if you dont have the mind set dont get the car. there isn't anyone going to repair that car but yourself, so you have to be a GREAT DIY.

its a nice list of parts, a nice car but for 30k. I rather roll around in a stock STI for 22-25k used of course. Most STI/EVO's should be more the enough power for the average person. more then enough street legal power.

i cant take full advantage of my SR20DE- T powered 200sx because i'll be speeding in no time and i dont have enough road to completely enjoy it on the street.

Even asking the question shows beyond a shadow that you're not up to owning/maintaining this car. That is no daily driver.

I don't see 18MPG on that car. I see 10-12MPG on that car. 8-10 the way I would drive it. ;)

It definetly could be a daily driver, but you better be mechanically inclined before you buy something with that many mods. But i wouldnt pay 27k for it.

Of course it could, but would you? But yea you need to know how to work on cars, specifically cars like this, to own one. You can't take this in to the dealership for an oil change.....

Its the old rule....if you have to ask...you shouldnt get it! I love how he calls it a "sleeper" when it has a giant CF whale tale in the back!

a) mods do not increase the value of the car, and therefore that car is NOT worth 27k that he is asking for it.

b) the 04's are not as desirable due to several things, like the hubs(which are weaker than the 05+) and smaller fender flares to name a few.

I suggest getting a more stock 05, or for 27k you could easily get into the 06-07 range. They are already fast cars, add on some engine management and you have a very fast car with little investment. Much more fun to do all the mods yourself, get exactly what you want and with the knowledge that it's been done right. Also easier to tell whats gone wrong when it does.

It could be for me. But not for most. Reliability shouldn't be much of an issue, most people just wouldn't want a car like this.

And maintains the hell out of it too, I bet. That's what a car like that is built for. It's more likely to have problems if you drive it slow than the other way around.

Don't get it. This moron has more money than sense. Not a good combination.

How so? This isn't slapped together rice, this car was professionally modded by one of the best in this particular car community. I'm not a fan of the look (I hate unpainted carbon fiber), but the mods look quite well put together. This thing will blow the doors off most everything on the street and the track, and still need nothing but routine maintenance until way past 100k miles.

I'd still recommend the OP not buy it, but that's just because he doesn't appear to know anything about these cars. No reason for him to jump into such deep water right off.

If I knew the seller, I'd tell him to part it back to stock and drop the price. It'd sell easier than way. But ironically, that's what you guys who fear buying modded cars get burned most often by. Just because it looks stock on the lot doesn't mean it always was.

Not a 06 or 07 STI for $27k. At least not one in good shape. Hell, I can't even find a regular 06-07 WRX wagon in good shape and low miles for less than $20k, and I've been looking for months.
I agree that modding is best done by the owner though. I did most of the wrenching on my car myself. Some people like 'turn key' though.

Vic, Perhaps Subaru's are more expensive in Oregon, I dunno, but over here there are plenty of 05 STI's in the low-mid 20's and I even found a 07 limited for 27k. So 27k for an 06-07 is not being optimistic here. Wagons are harder to find, but still I found a few examples ~20k or less.
