wrt54gs vs netgear pre-n

I recently purchased two routers, netgear pre-n and wrt54gs to do comparisions. I update wrt54gs with hyperwrt newest firmwares. wrt54gs does not have a good signal range comparing to the netgear pre-n. I always get signal "low" from linksys and signal "good" from netgear. I bought wrt54g for $70 and netgear pre-n for $90. Which one should I return?
 
Comparing the Linksys which is 802.11g Router to a Pre-802.11n is like comparing Apples to Oranges.

It is different class of hardware.

802.11n is the future and since it performing better I do not understand you problem?
