WRT54GS less range than WRT54G v5?

Bacicly i got a Gv5 was haveing problems with it so i took it back and got a GS v2 and the GS has worse wireless range.... Thought if any thing i thought it would be better? Is this normal? Or maybe a setting someware?

Any ideas?
