WRT54GS Internet problems

I just went out and bought a WRT54GS for my router in the basement. Here is my setup:

Cable Modem -> WRT54G -> WRT54GS

There are two wired computers on the WRT54G that work fine as well as one device accessing the Internet wirelessly (my Dell laptop which I am on right now). I connected the WRT54GS (aka Basement Router) to the WRT54G (aka Upstairs Routers) from a LAN port from the G into the WAN port of the GS. Both routers have the most up-to-date official firmware (which will be replaced by SveaSoft's release when I get it stable).

The basement router has power, connects fine, and shows up in the DHCP client table on the upstairs router (192.168.1.104 with the identical MAC address). In the status page on the basement router, the assigned IP is 192.168.1.104, confirming that there is a connection. The Domain name is the same as my ISP (clvdoh.adelphia.net), and two DNS servers show up which are the same on the upstairs router. The DHCP client table on the basement router shows my computer connected to the router.

Wireless is disabled on the basement router.

My computer refuses to pick up an Internet connection. I have run the Network Setup Wizard twice, restarted three times, restarted both routers, and even switched LAN ports - nothing works.

Does anyone have any help? I am completely stumped.

Okay, I have it semi-working now. Here's what I have done, mostly taken from this page:

http://forums.practicallynetworked.com/archive/index.php/t-467.html

1) Set the basement router as a router, not gateway.
2) Disabled the DHCP server
3) Set local IP as 192.168.1.2
4) Connected the cable to a LAN port, not the WAN port.

Now I have Internet, but the router no longer allows me to bring up the configuration page by going to 192.168.1.2. What gives?
