WRT54G v6, worth using DD-WRT?

Hi guys,
I've got a WRT54G v6, and I'm tempted to install the DD-WRT firmware as described on this link: http://www.bitsum.com/openwiking/owbase/ow.asp?WRT54G5%5FCFE#h27

I'm wondering if it's worth doing, though. Will I have reduced functionality because of using the "micro" DD-WRT compared to using DD-WRT on a WRT54GL or a WRT54G v4? Will this improve my router for gaming purposes?

I can still return my v6 to RadioShack and buy a GL or v4 from elsewhere, which I'm also considering, but will that be more hassle or more worth it than installing the micro firmware on my v6?

Thanx in advance for any advice!

Honestly I would return it and buy a WRT54GL. To be brutally honest the v5 series is a piece crap and somehow I doubt the v6 is much better.

The issue of Flashing became a Psychological Process rather than a technology option.

It seems that many people think that by the ?Flashing? process, some miracle happens, and life in general gets better.:brokenheart:

So any one that feels that his social status at School/Work/Girl friend/ Boy friend, etc. would drastically improve coz he/she can say" ?I have A Linksys Wireless Router with a Free Flashed 3rd Party firmware". Then do no bother to read the rest. ;)

Logic 101.

If the micro DD-WRT on v6 does some thing that the Linksys stock firmware Does Not, and you need the additional capacity.

Then it worth it.

If the full DD-WRT does something that you need, and it is Not provided by Linksys stock firmware, or the DD-WRT micro.

Then getting a WRT54L, and the flashing it with the full DD-WRT worth it.

If neither of the DD-WRT versions provide any thing that you need.

Then the WRT54g v6 worth it (provided you pay good price for it).

Actually, it worthwhile to look at this, it is a better product.

Out of the box it does more than the WRT54 line with stock firmware.

It is High power, can work as a WDS/Repeater/Client), does IP reservation within the DHCP, and if more needed there is a DD-WRT version for it as well.

Thanx for the very thurough reply, Jack! Unfortunately, I already purchased a WRT54GL on newegg, or I would have taken you up on the Buffalo idea. As for why I need this, it's because my house has 4 college students who do a lot of BTing, and the stock firmware causes the router to zombify more than once a day. I have experience with this issue from back when I had the 802.11b linksys router, and I wanted to get rid of it for good.
