Hi,

I'm looking for some help with my problem. I cannot connect to the Internet using my Linksys WRT54G (v. 6) router. I can connect with just the modem provided by my ISP (Fibernet), but when I follow the instructions in the Setup Wizard for my router, I cannot connect. The problem seems to be at the point where it prompts for a password input. I have tried resetting the router and using 'admin' as the password, but this doesn't work. I have also tried leaving the field blank and this doesn't work. My router worked fine with my old ISP (Comcast), but now it isn't. Could the problem have something to do with my router not being properly configured for a static IP address? I've tried resetting the router the normal way. Is there another way to do so?

I've power cycled the router and modem a number of times, and searched through the forums here but I couldn't find an adequate solution. Can someone help me please? Thank you.

Edit: Sorry, I accidentally double posted... (what a dumb mistake!)

Is the Cable modem also doing NAT? if so the Default addresses may be the same. What IP Address does your system get when hooked directly to the Modem?

I don't know about the cable modem (I don't have it any more), are you asking about the DSL modem? If so, how can I check if it is doing NAT? When the DSL modem is plugged in without the router, I get the IP address given by Fibernet.

If I plug the router in, I get the same addresses and gateways.

When you connect directly to the "Modem" what your computer IP is?

If it is a private IP (the 192.168.xxx type) then you have already a Modem/Router.

If you want to use the Linksys Wireless configure it as follow.

Using a Wireless Router as a switch with an Access Point - http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

the IP address isn't of the 192.168.xxx type. It is definitely the IP address that was assigned by my ISP. The PC doesn't have a modem, only a network card. The modem given by the company is only a modem (they were clear it was only a modem and that it was good that I had a router or some shit).

Sorry I missed the DSL thing. Chances are the WAN Setup in the Linksys is set for DHCP with no login. This may need to be changed for PPPoE, with an account and password. I think you have not properly done a hard reset on the Router. Get the Reset instructions and follow them, when you can get in the router you should have no problem setting it up correctly.
