I cannot for the life of me connect to the internet... a while ago a storm came by and according to my parents, the internet connection died and could not be established with this router... I tried setting it back up and it will not work at all. I don't have the setup cd anymore, would someone please rip it for me by chance? I can't seem to do anything to get it to run. I have uploaded to the new firmware, reseted it. I can establish a connection to the modem but clicking on firefox/pinging will not do anything.

Can you connect directly from the modem to your NIC (just to confirm that the problem isn't the modem)? Is your computer setup as a DHCP client or are you setup as a static client (automatically detect settings versus manually assigned IP addresses like 192.168.1.2)?

What I would do is:

1) Turn everything off (comp, modem, router)
2) Power up modem
3) When momem lights stop blinking and you have a connection to the cable, power up router
4) Turn on PC

If looks like your router is working correctly as it's been assigned an IP from the cable. My guess is that it's a client setting that's wrong or a changed router setting (make sure DHCP serving is on in the router and make sure your comp is set to automatically detect settings).

If you still don't have net, try pinging 192.168.100.1 (that should be the IP of your cable modem).

Thanks, the modem is not the problem, I'm using another router right now that works right when I connect it. I will try what you have said. Thanks.

Well, it's not the first Linksys router that I heard die. Mine takes a very very long time to connect now (and I can open up the web interface and see the status page, and it just says "connecting" over and over) and sometimes I'll lose connection and when I try to go to the ip of the router, it will not even recognize the router ip any longer and I have to reset the router to get to the web interface again.

I told some people at work and a couple of people said that they've had Linksys routers slowly die like that as well. If your router is still under warranty, you might want to try getting it replaced.

Mavric, but he said his stopped functioning after a storm had passed his house, not slowly as in wearing out. Could of had some kind of power surge from the storm.

That's what I think but everything is functioning except for internet access although it shows that it has a connection to my modem.

Are you sure you followed the instructions right ? Also they have a tech support number. I didnt know how to secure my wireless and called up and i was done in 10 min after they explained it to me.

Have you tried a master reset of the router (i.e. reset to factory settings) and reconfigured from scratch?

I find that using my Linksys router, I had to manually specify my DNS server in my network settings or it would not work. Although, my router setup is a bit funny as I use two (Modem/Router -> Linksys Router -> Home Network). You can give this a test by trying to PING an IP instead of an address (I noticed you mentioned that you pinged above).

Personally, I've grown quite discontent with Linksys routers and I am very close to junking mine as I can't stand its "fragileness" and inability to function correctly half the time. I don't know why I even bought it as my last Linksys router was a fluke and ended up causing more problems than any other router that I've worked with. Although, I'd need to find a router that I could replace it with and God knows I won't touch Netgear either (owned 3 netgear products of different types (Router, Wireless NIC, wired NIC) and all died or ceased functioning properly within a year).

Yes, I feel the same way.... I like my Belkin router, I just wish it had wireless so I didn't have to buy a new one. I'm getting a ISO of the install cd for this router... if it doesn't work then it is fubred.

I got a install cd from someone and it worked! I think it had to do with the hostname for some reason... it had comast and some random keys in it.
