Hey All,

My Linksys WRT54G Router/Wap keeps on dropping conections with the stock firmware. I heard that a 3rd party firmware could take care of this. Are there any suggestions on which 3rd party firmware would fit the bill? I've downloaded DD-WRT 21c. Is this the best?

Let me know, I appreciate any and all help.

Thanks,

Have you got a resource for the firmwares for the Linksys WR*54G routers? I have a V and this is annoying me to no end as well.

HyperWRT has been the best for me. THat siad, I still get intermittant signal outages and have to repair the connection:(

I had tried the Svesoft Alchemy and the satori releases and they sucked.

I think you're getting a little confused.

Signal dropouts can be caused by any number of outside causes. 2.4Ghz phones, other wifi networks on the same channel, microwaves, large metal objects in the LOS, etc. can cause this problem.

What the 3rd party firmware can do is increase the transmit voltage from the router. That doesn't mean that it will change on the clients at all so you may get nowhere. The stock voltage on the WRT54G is 28mW. Because my laptops go up to 50mW I set the router to 42mW to get a little better range. But my 2.4Ghz phone still scrambles it a little, especially when I'm talking.

The question wasn't so much was that version the best of the DD-WRT firmware as their site would state that. The question however was if the DD-WRT was the best firmware available out of different 3rd parties.

I've downloaded DD-WRT 21c. Is this the best?

i'm sorry, but this really threw me off. You mentioned dd-wrt 21c as opposed to dd-wrt firmware in general so i came to the conclusion that you were referring to the best version of any firmware in general because usually there are stability issues per different version of firmware.

so i guess my answer would be the best type of wrt54g firmware is dd-wrt.

Sleep,

No problem and thank you for your new answer. Have you tried the other 3rd parties at all? Or have you just had real good luck with the DD-WRT?

The best, depends on your requirements.

HyperWRT is essentially a based on Linksys Officlal code, witha few extras. and preferred by many

DD-WRT is based on an old Sveasoft (which has tons of Features) code base.

Sveasoft's "Alchemy" firmware is a very powerful firmware which most do not need, however the QoS is excellent.
