Here's the deal, I recently wrote 2 checks on a closed money market bank account, obviously they bounced. Like a fool, I forgot to destroy the checkbooks when I closed my account and they got mixed with my checking account checkbooks. They both bounced and now I realize how stupid I am and destroyed all my old checks before I screw up again.

I have never bounced a check before and am not wanting for money. I heard of the ChexSystems which is like a credit report for your banking transactions. Am I likely to be listed on that and therefore be denied opening a new account?

I'm transfering to a new city in 3 months and will need to open a local bank accout!

What a stupid mistake.

Go talk to your bank, and the place you wrote the checks. Mistakes happen, its when you try to run or hide that you have problems.

But I closed my account at those banks. Who would report me I guess is my question. The bank that tries to deposit the check or my banking institution?

The Checks will bounce and you will need to rewrite the checks using the new account. ChexSystem is only for things that don't get paid in a timely fashion once the debt is settled it won't be reported.

The old accounts will occur bounce checked fees and will need to be paid. They might require you to pay the whole amount of the check plus the bounce fee if they pay out the money then they come after you looking for the money.
