Since samsung has come out with a 120 hz refresh rate monitor for 300 bucks, do you think more companies will follow and prices will drop? Im in the market for a 22' lcd for gaming and was curious whether you guys though this was going to be a trend in monitors. Right now im leaning towards buying a L337wtg-pf since it seems like the best bang for your buck in the 22' range. But this monitor is a year old and I would be willing to wait a couple months for some 120 hz loving.

Honestly for gaming you dont need 120hz. I would go with a decent 24" and call it a day. At 22", you will love it for a couple months, and then wish you got the 24. I went through this same thing last year.

I did the same. I moved from CRT 19" to 22" wide screen, loved it then wanted something bigger and ended up buying a 24" a year 1/2 later. Now I'm looking at 30" hoping they come down in price a bit :p

My first thought was a 23' monitor but I wanted to stay away from the 1920/1080 resolution because I want games to run at the highest FPS possible. My set up is a i7920 i plan to overclock to 3.6, a HD 4850 and 4 gigs of ram. I have heard as you go with larger screens it will cause unnecessary strain on the system resulting in lost FPS. Anyway I know I dont "need" 120 hz but I have heard its noticeable for gaming. I figure rather than buy a year old model I might as well get the best for my money. Im probably gonna go with the LG L337wtg-pf because im impatient and my computer is due to get delivered in tomorrow. Allthough if you think my set up can handle cod4, wow, MW2 (when it comes out) then I might be more inclined to go with a 24 set up. Unfortunatly that means researching all over again....lol. Any recommendations for a 24 inch set up and would you buy it online.

I dunno, a 23 FOOT monitor might be overkill there... :p

Go with the 24", you'll be fine. I play COD4 and 5 as well as BF2 on my 30" samsung no problem, all maxed with AA and AF as well.

Im gonna be out of the group here; but i wouldnt use anything other than my 120 fps lcd (or a crt) even if someone payed me 200 bucks to only use their 30". People say its not noticable; but one time my monitor decided to only be at 60 fps and it felt HORRIBLE; like i seriously wouldnt play first person shooters anymore if i was stuck at 60fps... Hell; id pay for my old ass dell 19" 1280x1024 @ 76 fps vs being forced to game on a 30".

It really comes down to preference i think... if you can see the difference and it doesnt matter to you; get something with a higher resolution; if it bothers u stick with high fps

At 22", you will love it for a couple months, and then wish you got the 24. I went through this same thing last year
My friend got a 24 and loved it for a couple months till he saw my 22, and then he wished he got the 22

*edit* i remember reading somewhere they are designing a 120fps 1920x1280 for dual link dvi... that resolution completely maxes out a dual link dvi...

Also im suprised no one has mentioned movies are at 24fps and don't scale to 60 Hz properly. However, they scale perfectly to 120 Hz. This is why movies look so much smoother on a 120 Hz set versus a 60 Hz set. The 3:2 pulldown just messes things up on 60 Hz sets.

Either way i think you should probably go to a B&M and check it out for yourself so you can see if u need more than 60 or not; some people just cant see it... My grandma cant tell a difference

Actually i have a theory on why some people swear all day long by 60hz. Basically i think the different response times for different colors are "smoothing" out the frame. My old dell pos had a 8ms black to white response time (yea u can tell how old it is cuz they dont measure like that anymore); but for certain colors the response time went up to 40ms; and in all honesty running it at 60 fps doesnt look as bad as my 120 monitor running at 60. So if anyone that thinks 60+ is unnoticeable maybe could u post ur monitor so i could dig up some charts for it to see if im right/wrong

120hz makes a huge difference in motion quality in older games that can maintain high framerates consistently. It's hard to get such performance in modern games though.

I would like to see better and larger LCDs (IPS and 26"+) with that technology. The few LCDs that currently do 120hz are pretty mediocre otherwise. Hopefully OLEDs will also incorporate it, whenever they finally come out.
