Bought a 500GB SSD for a friend and opened the shipping package yesterday only to discover that they sent me a 250GB SSD instead. Fortunately I caught the error before I opened the product box.

Anyway, I did an online chat with a rep and I sent photos showing the product serial, and I was told that they have to do an inventory check and if things match up, They'll give me an RMA shipping label so I can send it in to get my product replaced.

I figure that someone else here has experience with this, because I'm a little ticked. I get it that shit happens, but I felt like I was due some kind of compensation for that error, and after some negotiating, I was able to squeeze a $10 gift card out of them. If you think about it, I have to wait for them to check their inventory. Ship the wrong item back, then upon receipt ship the correct item to me.

I dunno, but I remember NewEgg many years ago being very different.

Mistakes happen and NewEgg will make it right. Your complaint is they "only" gave you a $10 gift card?

Compensation? You just better hope that checking their inventory shows them that they shipped the wrong item. And be grateful if it does.

Then never order anything from them again.

Idk I received the wrong refurbished Lenovo desktop awhile back and although I did have to submit a few pics to prove my case (not unreasonable) they made it right immediately afterwards.

I haven't experienced problems with Newegg, the opposite in fact, although perhaps my premier membership and long purchase history might make a difference, idk.

This is one of many reasons I don't shop at Newegg anymore. This would take 5 minutes to resolve with Amazon and I'd probably get a few free months of prime out of it. And all of that would likely have happened before Newegg even shipped the original item.

Amazon isn't the same as it used to be either, they don't have the best prices lots of times, and they stopped doing price matches as well. They have the *worst* packaging of HDs as well, air bags and the drive flopping around.
I think they just got too big to care.

Newegg has indeed gone downhill ever since they were sold off, and sadly, it seems the only place where you can get good service & prices is if you live close to a Microcenter.

If all I was concerned about cheapest prices, I'd be doing most my shopping at Walmart. Amazon's CS and shipping times in my experience are second to none. I'm more than happy to pay a few extra bucks for that. I've never personally had an issue with how they shipped my hard drives.

I had this happen once with a different fairly well known vendor. The vendor was frustrating to deal with but fortunately, AMEX had my back and things went smoothly after I disputed the charge with them. If Newegg makes things difficult, you could always try that route.
