Wrong drive/right box

Just got my 4TB Seagate HDD from Amazon today. Opened up the box and pull the new drive out. The first thing I notice is NAS HDD below the Seagate logo. I check the model and the label says ST40000VN000. I didn't order a NAS drive, just the plain version. I check the box and it says ST4000DM000.

The HDD is going to be used in my file server. Is there that much difference between the different models and is a NAS drive preferable for my application. I'm not running any RAID, just a bunch of discs. My first thought that was Amazon messed up. Turns out it was Seagate. The NAS drive is more expensive so maybe I got a better drive than I ordered. Anyone have any experience with this drive?

You are quite the lucky guy!. You definitely got the better drive. The NAS drive includes NASWorks software in firmware, a bunch of advanced controls for handling error recovery, and some other stuff, like a higher mtbf and higher rated duty cycle.

Keep it and count yourself lucky.
