i work for a company, i'm going to write off my laptop purchase bec. i use it for work, same goes for my broadband bill.

thinking about buying a car, using it for work, mostly to get to work... early morning, etc...

can i write that off in the same way as my laptop.

im guessing it's easier to do if i have my own business, or a w2 job and a 1099 based job on the side...

You cannot write off miles travelling to and from work. Nor can you claim driving to and from work is business use of a car.

how about car purchase costs?

depends? like a truck to carry your tools if you do some carpentry work.

You can write off the proportion that is used for work, but not the entire vehicle payment. Royal pain in ass.

how so pain in ass, if say the acct signs off.

also, if bought only for 100pct of your parttime job, u can write off 100 pct.

Are you just trolling....I mean your joined 1999?

100% is based on business use and MILEAGE.

If the MILEAGE supports it then yes..but you best not be using it for a daily driver elsewhere.

What are you trying to accomplish? That may be the best way to approach this.

it doesn't work that way
your auditor might disallow all that and then you're going to owe penalties and interest

Just remember that with the IRS, the burden of proof is on YOU to prove you didn't commit tax evasion. And then you're toast.

Already ASSuming he is guilty (pun intentional and not agreed too)?

I do agree he seems guilty...but every report of this mentions he is gay.

i had to look up what trolling is. Nope, real quest. not thread filling.

i think my previous coworker did some writeoff... with his bimmer....

i'm seeing how much ballz he involved himself with.... and whether i can 'measure up'....

I love my dad's case. He works two full time jobs, both government. He's a public school teacher by day and a college professor by night and his deduction of the hypotenuse of his commute has not only made several of his cars pay for their own operation (cheap 80's Escorts), but it has WITHSTOOD multipe IRS audits. Now AMT undoes his pwnage, but it was still funny at the time.

if you don't know what trolling is joining in 1999 and 2.5K posts....

I really don't know what to say. Other than you equate a 'Bimmer' to OMGBBQ!
